Does your partner often complain that you snore? Have you been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)? There are different ways in which these issues can be addressed, including CPAP therapy, surgery, and more. In our practice, Bio Dental is pleased to offer non-invasive therapy that can provide long-lasting results. Get in touch with our North Providence team to learn more about laser snoring treatment or continue reading below to gain a basic overview of how it works.

What Is Laser Snoring Treatment?

Snoring occurs when loose tissues in the throat vibrate as air moves past them. In some cases, those same tissues can block the flow of air and cause the breathing interruptions that are characteristic of OSA.

Laser snoring treatment involves the use of a specific wavelength of light that tightens tissues in the throat. Once they are tightened, air can move past them much more easily, leading to improved breathing. As a result, you may snore less, have fewer sleep apnea episodes, and enjoy better overall health.

In our office, we offer NightLase therapy using the advanced Fotona LightWalker Laser. This device has an outstanding reputation for being both safe and effective.

How Does Laser Snoring Treatment Work?

Laser snoring treatment is easy! Here are some notes on what to expect:

  • You may notice a warming sensation as the laser is applied, but there should be no real pain.
  • The laser causes collagen (a structural protein) in your tissues to contract, resulting in a wider airway.
  • Most patients experience optimum results after 3 – 4 sessions, spaced about 3 weeks apart.
  • The results may last for several months or longer. Periodic maintenance sessions can extend the benefits you experience from NightLase.
  • NightLase may work as a standalone treatment for some people. For others, it should be combined with other treatments in order to produce the best possible results.

Is Laser Snoring Treatment Right for You?

NightLase is an excellent option for many people! It might be right for you if:

  • You frequently snore.
  • You have been diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea.
  • You are looking for a non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical way to enjoy higher-quality sleep.
  • Your snoring or sleep apnea is caused primarily by the tissues in your soft palate, uvula, and surrounding areas. (In contrast, if the main culprit behind your condition is a large tongue or other anatomical factors, NightLase might not be right for you.)

After our team learns about your condition and performs an examination, we can provide an expert recommendation on your next steps. We can also help you to have realistic expectations about the kind of results you may enjoy after NightLase therapy.
